Building Nova: Unmind's pivot to AI-first mental health
Unmind is a mental health platform that companies offer as an employee benefit. I joined in 2021 when the app was built around a content library and mood tracking. Post-pandemic, engagement was plateauing. In 2023, we made a strategic bet to pivot to AI-first mental health support. I led the design for a small team (4 engineers, 2 data scientists, 1 product manager, 1 psychologist) to build Nova, an AI mental health coach for employees needing preventative support rather than intensive therapy.
